This was only the second egg she has laid.
2 days ago in the evening I suspected she was going to lay so I opened up a clean nest box and put in some wood eggs. She nestled down immediately and gave us our first egg some time in the next few hours (for christmas!) then left it there to roost for the night.
Last night it seems she instead roosted and layed over night and I found it broken below in the morning.
Is this a behavior I need to worry about or will she dislike breaking her eggs and choose a better spot? I'm not sure if they should be laying at a specific time of day either, is the evening normal?
For reference they have pellets and water in the coop.
Thanks for any help and sorry if these questions have been asked a thousand times, I did some searching but was having trouble finding relevant posts so feel free to tell me what to search or link a good post
Also, I hope you all had a great Christmas and are enjoying the holidays
