i bought some eggs and stated up my hova-bator ready but couldnt get steady temp so i thought about my cochin bantam so i went and grabbed her put her in a broody pen and gave her some golf ball unti the eggs get here and she got right to busines and started to make a nest and all that other stuff.is it weird that she will sit any time i let her. i made the broody pen how big does it have to be

Since broodies barely move when they're brooding, you only need a space big enough for their nest and food and water. I usually like to keep the food/water far enough away that she HAS to leave the nest to eat or she might poop on the nest. Once the chicks hatch, you need a space big enough for her and the chicks. Once the chicks hatch, I usually brooded them for the first few weeks in a 4x4 wood crate.

Hello - I have a hen who's chicks are just three month old. It seems that she is BROODY AGAIN -is that possible? Does anyone know? She was an INCREDIBLE mother to the last hatch - but I was just assuming she would not want to do it for at least a year. Please let me know what to do. Thanks Pj

Some girls want to have nesting action all the time!

I recommend making sure the broody has enough space to get up and flap and run and wander around. This keeps their respiratory system healthy, as they stretch the airsacs when they flap and run. She just needs to run around for a few minutes to an hour daily.

Thanks for the info
