My Hen is Limping!!! Help!

My favorite RIR hen "Lucille" who is 11 months tomorrow, is limping all day. When I closed them up last night she was fine, When I let them out this morning she is limping really bad. I checked her foot and leg, no injuries to be seen, No swelling, and it is not hot to the touch. What can I do? And what should I be watching out for ? I just love her so much and am very worried. she is hobbling about the yard and eating and drinking normally with the others. Please help!!

It sound like arthritis. A bad case of arthritis, but I don't know.

She might of jumped from a high place and hurt the leg or slipped on the landing. Is she limping with the hock coming down to the ground?
Egg, yogurt, vitamins every day until she gets better. Keep her where she cannot jump, cage on the ground in the coop for a few days to help rest the leg. I'm sure someone else can help more.
I have the same problem, except my bird just bit me and it's bleeding+bad bruise, so I'm not checking in on him much...He'll be fine, I'm mad at him, though, lol.

Can you get some DMSO? I use it for arthritis and i know they use it for race horses, just wondering if it would work for a chicken.

You can go to the feed store and get some DMSO. I have been using DMSO on my birds, ducks and chickens with leg problems for over 6 years. You will want to dilute the DMSO 1 part DMSO to 9 parts water. Make sure the clear gel is completely dissolved. DMSO smells awful, but it works wonders. Take a cotton ball and rub it all over her leg, up to her hip if you have to. DMSO helps swelling and inflammation. You can apply it twice daily and you should be able to notice a difference.

I don't have the money to take everybody to the vet every time something is wrong, unless it's something I really can't handle. I run a bird rescue, so I have a lot of injured birds come in, and it's mostly chickens. DMSO costs about $7 and lasts. I'm still on my first jar. I have a lot of babies with leg problems and DMSO really does help.

If she gets up on just one leg, she will get down on one leg, injuring the good one or try to use the bad one too and making it worse.
Idk what it could be if she doesn't even try to use it, must be worse than just a sprain.

Isn't 11mo. far too young for arthritis???

I have had hens show up with a limp. Most of the time it only lasts a day or two. They could have hurt there foot or leg jumping down from the roost. If you find nothing wrong with the leg or foot........ look close to make sure not bumblefoot....... then I would just keep an eye on the chicken for the next day or two. If it doesn't get better then I would find someone that can give you more information or talk to a vet. Hope she feels better.

I do have a light brahma that has a bad limp when she runs. She's been that way for a long time. I've checked her out and can't find anything wrong. I'm guessing it's joint or something. She does walk fine and it doesn't seem to bother her much.
