Hi,

I have a Silkie hen that I have decided to keep as a house hen. She is very small and just doesn't seem to do well with the others. Goofy is a rescue and so her feet are deformed and she is unable to perch and her feathers just started growing back in.

Anyway, with the cold temps at night, 4-7 degrees, I decided it was time to bring her in. I cleaned her up and made a diaper out of a sock. Now she roams around enjoying life. She espeically enjoys our fireplace. When my DH lights a fire, Goofy will lay down on her side with one wing up in the air and go to sleep. She'll stay there until our cat nudges her out of the way.

Anyone else have chickens that do weird things like that?

Mine don't come inside (my husband would have a fit) however I have one crazy RIR who will take every opertunity to jump onto my shoulder..... she'll follow anyone into the coop - and she'll be YAPPIN the entire time, she's really cute. She's pretty gentle with us, even when trying to PICK lint or something off our clothing, but she has to try everything, and zipper pulls are her favorite!

My Delwares love to pull on shoe laces! My granddaughter reported to her mom, very seriously, that she had chicken sPit on her shoes!
I also have learned that I must take off my diamond engagement ring before I tend to the chickens. I swear that I thought the last time they yanked the diamond right out of the setting!

Two of my RIR's will peck at my legs if I don't bring a treat and my Barred Rock will follow me throughout the coop clucking until I give her a treat.

Oh yeah I know that pose well! We don't have a fireplace but as soon as the chickens discover the space heater they do the "chicken flop"!
