I am so sorry for your loss....the exact thing happened to us .....lost 9 of my chickens at once...all of them to coons. Our coop was not secure enough and we were not educated enough at the time to know the seriousness of what coons can do..( that was b4 we discovered BYC )
Please dont blame your self or your hubby...it was just bad timing and bad luck.
I hope you can find some more chickens and start over....you will be ready to eventually.

And about the country....yes....gardens do get bugs and we loose livestock occasionally...but just think....you are not in the crime infested, polluted, crowded, noisy, and indifferent city!! I hope you feel better soon and continue to enjoy your life in the country.....

I would be crying if the same thing had happened to my girls! But I'd live in the country and day rather than in the city....

Don't be too hard on yourself or hubby. Check Craigs list in your area. I got some lakenvelder chicks from Craigs List; I also trade hens with my farrier.

Be at peace, my friend, and relish your memories and, most of all, make some more memories!
