my hens seem afraid of my new chicks

hello! i have three 4-year old hens, not broody at all, very docile. i have 9 chicks about to be 6 weeks old. each time i get them near the hens they all scram and seem frightened of them. right now the chicks are indoors. i have a huge run - i'd like to quarantine a section for the chicks and go ahead and put them there. thinking that might be ok, since the hens seem to run away each time they are near? appreciate the wisdom on here.

Hi there! Sounds like a good idea. That way the hens and chicks can get used to each other over a period of time before you integrate.
