My hobby farm is complete!

I am just too excited!

My garden is planted and everything is growing! Last year nothing survived, but this year, while prepping the garden, I found a horse shoe - must be lucky!!!

We finished all the details on the chicken coop over the weekend and yesterday, I finished their run. I moved the chickens last week into the coop, but I think they enjoy it even more now that they can go outside.

I FINALLY got my pigs on Saturday! I got two of them. They're not very exciting to watch (not like the chickens) - all they seem to do so far is sleep in the barn...

Anyways, my little hobby farm is complete for this summer and I LOVE it! Can't wait to try adding something new to it next year...

Congrats countrygrl......how cool for you.....my garden is soaked this year,last year it fried in the hot okie sun.....go figure.my beans didnt stand a chance.hopefully rain will slow some and I can get to it...........enjoy those pigs.and I agree,not near as fun to watch as chicks.

Last year my main problem with the garden was that we had a long rainy spell and everything just got way too much water. And with it being my first garden, I also had a tendancy to overwater. This year I tried some things that my mom suggested:

* After tilling and raking everything out, I made "hills and valleys"

* I laid soaker hose across the hills

* I covered everything in black plastic

* I cut holes in the plastic and planted everything on the hills

The hills allow the water to run off when you get stuck with too much rain

The black plastic is doing wonders in keeping the weeds away

Also, I need to change the litter in my kitty litter boxes tonight, so I'll be taking the "old" litter and spreading it around the perimeter of my garden to keep the rabbits away from it.
