I live in a pretty large city. I went to Olive Garden the other day and we asked for a to go container at the end. Normally, they don't say anything about it, but the guy asked and I had to explain to him that I was bringing it home for the chickens. Yeah, he wasn't expecting that!
Back when I could get free food at work, they would get yellow cake with vanilla icing about once every other week. They see you get out of the car with a cake tray now, they start jumping the fence and mobing you! I'm down to 40 chickens now (from 65), so each one doesn't get that much, but they love it. They also love to sling colored icing everywhere. My poor little white cochin was blue, pink, and purple for a week! It had to happen when I didn't have a camera that worked too! Junk food in moderation should be fine, mine still get homecooked bread in the afternoons when I sit and make them come to me. They have to eat it out of my hands (or steal it from one who does) to get any though. You would be surprised at how much bribery does for you!
So far, I haven't given my girls to many snacks or treats.
DH & I love pasta and so do the chickies...
Tonight I gave them long speghetti... It was a hoot watching them!
Last night, DH tried to give them yogart, but the girls were not interested because they were chasing flies and munching on worms that came out after a day of rain.
Bless his heart... He thinks the girls don't like him... But, I keep encouraging him to keep trying.
When my DH pulls into the gate, the flock all runs to the back door of the house. They all wait there for him to get to the door. He saves pieces of his lunch for them. They get quite a variety of muffins (homemade blueberry, pumpkin or corn), pieces of bananas, grapes, tomatoes, apples and homemade 12 grain bread.
Yesterday I saw DH sharing his bowl of cornflakes with Patsy, our Rhode Island Red, who is one of his pals.
If it's food then the chickens here will eat it. Heck if it falls on the ground they try to eat it. An ash flew out of the BBQ and the chickens ate it! They love cheetos, and honey nut cheerios. They also get DH's left overs from lunch each day. If there is anything left in his lunch box when he gets home he doesnt even come in the house first....he just walks around back and sits with the flock and feeds them his lunch.

Hi, I am new to this forum....My daughter was the one who told me I needed to join....She has chickens in TN.......and I have chickens (8) in AK.....and 15 sled dogs....and 1 cat......My chickens eat everything under the sun.....Last night I gave them leftover Thai food.....along with the left over rice....and they gobbled it down.....and then asked for more......they clean the weeds out of my gardens, eat whatever....and while they are only a couple of months old (hatched June 1), they are growing like weeds and now come when I call them....Now if only the cat would do the same
