Hmmm.. I may have done one of these a year ago, but the website is asking for another one. Enough has changed, so here goes!
I first got rescue chickens in December 2015, two who were being picked on.
I now have 9 chickens, after losing some to predators or illness. The man I got the rescue chickens from let them free range all day, but that is not safe in my yard. So, they have a great chicken tractor that my husband made, and they get out for a few hours each day when I am able to be out WITH them.
My oldest hen is a black Copper Maran named Marianne, and the next two oldest are a Cochin/Easter Egger mix (Edith Ann/Freakshow) and a Serama bantam (Ginger) who went broody and hatched 3 (donated bantam) eggs 3 weeks ago. (Freakshow looks like Baby Huey, but with big mutton chop whiskers and giant clown feet with feathers and extra toes hanging off the back. She also looks like she is wearing a diaper.)
Then I got 3, 9 week old chicks from the hardware store who have just been folded into the older hens' area. Ginger and her three wee bantam chicks have their own house, and I am going to name them Kukla, Fran and Ollie.
I have two 55lb dogs, a standard poodle named Cecile and a Labradoodle named Murray. We are trying for the second year to grow all our own vegetables and many fruits also.
