(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
This is our first flock.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We decided to go all in and acquired SIX (6) 1 day old chicks. They are now between 5 and 6 weeks.

(3) What breeds do you have?
They are Rhode Island Reds!! Such pretty little birds.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Respect for the breed as pets and healthy egg production.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I knit winter hats and scarves, paint, use the 'death machine' with my husband to do fractal burning (his name for it). We also, as a family, invest in housing for low income singles or families.

Welcome to BYC! I adore Rhode Island reds so much! Best of luck with your chicken journey! 😊

Nice introduction, M'lady! RIR's are beautiful birds, and great as a first flock.

Maybe I'm the only one on the planet who didn't know what fractal burning is, but thanks to you, I Googled it and am both impressed with the art form and fearful for your safety :lau.

Best wishes with your flock of six and welcome to our flock!
