Finally got my first chicks in July of 2010. 25 buff orpington (straight run pullets). Now at 16 wks of age and having a blast with them, I actually laugh out loud at times. Also a free chick, a beautiful rooster, unknown breed. We are in Central (northern) NY. I found this forum on google, as I am not sure, but I think one of my pullets, is actually a rooster. I see that many people are confused by orpingtons, as they take a long time to mature. Still no tell-tale hackle feathers or crowing. So time will tell. I am very anxious for our first eggs, but I guess that will be a while too. Clever husband built a beautiful coop for the ladies, but they prefer to roam the property. I prefer them out and about too. Glad to have a place for chicken talk. I am especially wanting to "speak" with other orpington owners, and or New Yorkers with some experience with chicken. Also. plan to purchase ducklings in the spring of 2011. Mucovies and Cayugas. Anyone with info on these breeds? Suggestions, comments always welcome!
