My Little suburban farm

It's just everyday life for my grandaughter to go out with me in the morning and feed the chickens, clean the coop, take care of the dogs, weed the garden, put waste out in the compost pile. The difference is this is the suburbs. On the other side of that fence are neighbors that don't even know we have chickens!

You don't need a farm in the country to have a "homestead".

That's funny! When I was little I used to run over to my Grandma's house and show her my new chicken, or kitten, or whatever I had to show her.

Your grand daughter is so lucky! I wish more kids had the opportunity to be exposed to animals. Growing up I had my own goat, knew how to take care of the horses and chickens.. so much fun!

That's it exactly! I want my grandchildren to have fond memories of their childhood. I also want them to know that eggs come from chickens, not the grocery store. Vegetables are grown and do not come in cans, etc.

It's unnerving to me how many children have no idea of where their food comes from.

Love this thread,I too only have a garden with neighbours each side,I was kinda shy to tell everyone on here lol,Im a young mom age 25 I have a 7,6 and 4 year old one of my children are autistic he struggles achedemically,I also have a bipolar disorder and depression,the chickens have provided us with a whole new world at the bottom of the garden it offers us peace from the city life and constant mental struggles we have and as a family unites us,my friends think its crazy there partying and im brushing my silkie hens and getting way more enjoyment from it lol,I guess im a country girl at heart x

Your chickens look rather young. Your neighbors may know you have them soon. Mine are awfully loud while they are laying eggs.
