She's the best mom anyone could ever ask for but sometimes her rules really get me. I've hatched and bought flocks of ducklings over the past few years but I'm never aloud to keep them once they get bigger. Ducks are my favorite animal on the planet but would you believe I've never even been close to an adult duck? I can never find farms with ducks and if they have them their always super scared of people and run away if you come near them. I just got two more ducklings but this time I have a plan. My mom said the usual rule that I have to sell them once their half grown but this time I have a good small coop perfect for two ducks. I live in a town where no one has farm animals and it's generally not allowed but I can't see my neighbors complaining unless the ducks cause problems. The coop is roughly 2' by 4' and about 3-4 1/2 foot high. It has a small roost in it and no floor so they can try to catch bugs. I also have a large shed (approx 6'x6'x'6 or a little bigger) I could put them in when winter comes so they won't be cold. I don't have a pond but I can let them bath in a baby pool or something. I have TONS of other pets but ducks have always caught my attention. I figure I'll wait a while and ask seriously. I brought it up today and she didn't exactly say no she said "I think the neighbors might complain" but they didn't say anything when my old pet chicken got loose in their yard except "don't let it get hurt or fly away." All of my immediate neighbors know me and pretty much like me. I honestly don't think they would even know that ducks aren't allowed.

Go to you neighbors and ask. Then present your findings to your mom, if that is the real reason it might help, if not then you two need to talk about the real reason.

I have cleaned up this thread of the grammar police thread crashing. If you can't be helpful to the topic, please SHOO.

I wonder if the opster's mom is saying no due to the noise that adult ducks make, thus the possibility of bugging the neighbors. Maybe print up a page on Muscovy ducks to show mom. Their quack is super duper quiet. When I was growing up a neighbor had a pair, but didn't know the name of the breed but mentioned that they were also known as "quackless" ducks.

Call the office and ask about the code. If it's on the books that fowl are allowed then neighbors whining wouldn't matter. Unless of course it's a noise/nuisance violation... which is a concern with anything from (most, not all) ducks to dogs.

If however there's a law on the books banning them then, if it was me, I'd respect mom's wishes. Since it'll be her that gets the fine, not you. But it'd be you that had to get rid of pets you'd grown to love very much. In other words BOTH of you get hurt. Keeping in mind that you can always get ducks (or piercings or tats ftm) once you're grown and in your own home.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I doubt noise would be a problem since I have several loud parrots and the neighbors never complain about them so I can't see a duck being louder than a parrot.
