About a year ago a older couple bought a house not far from us. They are using it as their weekend getaway right now until the wife retires in a few years.
A couple of weeks ago the husband went out and bought a great pyrenees puppy. They're keeping it at their house up here. The man comes up (presumbly) once a day to feed it, but other than that the pup is alone all week long.
This pup is absolutely beautiful. When she looks at you, you can see her smile. It's so adorable.
Anyhow, every time I drive to the end of our road I see this pup sitting at the end of their driveway. She gets all excited when she sees a vehicle, but when the vehicle passes on by she just turns around and heads back up to their yard.
The pup is being cared for, but she sure seems lonely. If she were to ever follow my vehicle up our farm road I think I might forget to take her back home for a few days. It makes me sad to see her so lonely.
I can't wait another year or so until I can have a great pyr pup...or two.

OMG, I totally don't understand people like that. A beautiful puppy and they leave it alone.

Why wouldn't they take it home with them?

Michele.

why not ask the old man if you can babysit her while they're not there...they supply the feed and what not and you enjoy her company while they're not there?

Actually I have thought about it. My DH knows the woman; she works at the bank he uses. If the opportunity arises I probably will ask. They'll probably say no though; afraid she'll get too used to being up here on the farm and not want to return to their small yard.

Do they have any livestock? If they want a livestock guardian, you really don't want to spoil the pup much... I dont want to see any dog mistreated but if they are a guardian you dont have a lot of contact with them or they dont do their job.

You could always see if you could just stop by for a quick affection moment.

No, no livestock. There are cattle all around their place, owned by the same man that leases our pastureland. He used to own the house these people bought. They bought just the house and the yard (about 1/2 acre).
