A BIG thanks to jmhappycowboy and Joe for this wonderful brooder pen. It will come in handy if Naomi successfully hatches the 5 little Serama bantam eggs Penny laid. The hatch should begin on the 17th this month! Of course it can also be used to totally house a couple of bantams or be used as a hospital pen, isolation pen, etc. It is obviously the prettiest chicken structure in the yard thus far. James is also building us a new 8'x8' coop and a run the same size as the one we have so we can separate our big chickens from our bantams. Oh, I almost forgot! He is also leveling the existing coop, covering the run, re-wiring the run with more secure hardware cloth, modifying the existing coop roosts, adding dropping boards under the roosts, and adding a concrete water barrier around the high side of the run to help keep it nice and dry!

Sorry if I sound like I'm bragging.....I'm just SO happy to be getting things made right for my sweet chickens.

The coop part of the brooder has a removable floor and roost for easy cleanup. There are plenty of doors for access, security, and cleanup. It is the perfect height for me, too! (James thinks of EVERYTHING!!!!!) Larry and I are planning to move it to a shadier location since it is SO hot here in central Mississippi already.

Looks great. Congrats on your new brooder and the upcoming coop. James is a sweetheart. I wish I lived closer to him, he could come help me. LOL

Thanks, Marie. The more housing he builds for me, the more CHICKENS I can acquire! I feel extremely blessed to live close enough to him for this to be possible. My DH is an office man.

Well the next time I come that way we will all have to meet up somewhere? I don't get down to Jackson much especially with gas prices, but my femal doctor is there, so ... At some point, I will be coming. What kind of birds do you have?

Marie

Marie, currently I have the following in my flock:

Brandy, a mixed hen
Pocket and Penny, silkie Serama mated pair
Dahlia, Ameraucana-silkie cross
Ruth and Naomi, Exhibition Buff Orpington hens
Rhett and Scarlett, Welsummer cockerel and pullet
Little Boy Blue, blue Orpington bantam cockerel

Naomi is currently broody on five of Penny's little eggs which are due to start hatching on the 17th and finish on the 21st. I hope they hatch. The thunder we are experiencing right now makes me nervous. I've heard they won't hatch if it thunders near or on hatch date. :|
