Finally I got to pick up my new birds today. I got 7 in total. 1:3 Bielefelders and 1:2 Welsummer bantams. The females are about 12 weeks old and the cocks are a little older. The breeder said they where about 10 and 11 weeks old.

Here are some pics

Welsummers, the cock is at the front

And one more of my chicken assistant, he was just tasting the straw before putting it inside the coop.

It's good to have someone in charge of quality control!

wowie!!! They're so adorable!!

How can you tell early on that there's a rooster? (the only way I figured it out was when they started their rooster calls! lol)

These are 12 weeks old, the rooster is slightly older.

If you look at the first pic, you can see that the rooster is bigger than the hens and his comb is also more developed. By this age the cocks begin to show their plumage (I forgot the word), their neck and saddle feathers begin to grow longer. He's also got tiny little spurs too.

from about 6 weeks you can hold a piece of card underneath a couple of neck feathers, hen neck feathers are rounder in comparison to the cocks pointed feathers

wowie!! All the signs and I never knew!
