Gotta tell you... Your son's shirt is awesome! I saw a Cornsnake on there that looks like 4 of the ones I own. Its a cool shirt, I want one,lol. Cute chicks BTW, I miss mine being that tiny.

As far as I know when holding chickens by the legs be careful not to squeeze them together too hard it WILL break their legs. The person I learned about this from has had that experience and told me if I hold em by the legs to make sure i put a finger between to help myself avoid squeezing too hard. Hope that is helpful, it is all i know how to do.
