I'm a bit over tired and realized that someone will inevitably point out a flaw in my math for how much space my chickens have. I said on the site that I planned for 4 square feet per bird and then proceeded to post a picture with 13 birds in a 4 x 8 coop.

We started with 8 chicks, then one died. Then today someone gave us six more. So I definitely have less space per bird and I don't even know how big to expect the new ones to get since I don't know what breed they are.

You can probably get by with a little less space if you have a big enough run or free range. Good Luck

Thanks. I know it's not as nice looking as many of the others on here but it is functional and that's the most important thing.

I too have a 4x8 coop, but with 11 birds. I compensated for lack of coop space by allowing 15+ s.f. per bird in the run. However, if yours are to free range, I don't think you'll have too much trouble...I'm new to this, but so far, mine have been getting along just fine. Good luck! Gail
