You guys know that around Christmas time I had to get a new car...I loved that little buggy...notice how I used the past tense...I had an accident with him at the end of July...and the insurance company totalled him out...

We've been looking for a couple of weeks and going all over creation to look for another one in our price range and that I would like...
My rental car, through the other lady's insurance:clap is a 07 Ford Focus that had only 25 miles on it when I picked it up...I have to return it on Tues. And I have doctor's apptments, physical therapy and all sorts of other junk necessary for the remnants of the accident.
We went to a Ford dealer and drove a willow green one, but I wasn't keen on it because of the colour, but I might've been able to live with it. We tried a brand-new still shrinkwrapped Hyundai Accent...Nice little cars, surprisingly so.
So we narrowed it up to Focus' and Accents. Then we went out again yesterday. We went to a Hyundai place and tried a nice black one with only 9942 miles on it. but we couldn't talk the sales manager down to our price and he acted as if we wasted his time...

The salesman was a hoot though. He looked like the love child of Rollie Fingers and Richard Petty.

Another place we went the salesperson was like "what would you like to take for a ride?" We hadn't really even gotten out of the car to look yet....sheesh...
One of the first places had a 01 ZX3 2 dr hatchback that "supposedly" had only 14493 miles on it...but the tires looked like they were from the turn of the century.
But we went back to the place where we bought Tlaloc, my navy ZX5 from. The salesman's been telephone stalking me, almost every day calling to see if we want to make a deal. LOL But today he called and there was a "New one". I had seen this one on their site. LOL and I wasn't keen on it because it's a silver car, and not my first choice. But we took it out. It has a remote starter and a Blaupunkt 6 CD changer stereo system in it...

Not cheap by any means...too bad all the channels are on dance music...blech
So we went into the showroom to talk $$. The salesman came out with a sale price of $8,995 down from $9,995. Nope wasn't a deal...We started at $7,500. Nope, no deal there either. He came down to $8,500. Nope. We went up to $8,000. He said, "$8,000 and a $900 service plan." Heck NO!!!I don't put enough miles on a car to make that worth our while...I had Tlaloc since Dec and he only had 36,487 miles on him and when he was killed he was just under 39,000. So Dh and I went outside and did some Academy Award acting. LOL I looked under the hood, crawled under the car, looked in the trunk and under the seats and we looked like we were gonna go. Dh said to tell the Salesmanager $8,100 and no service and the S/M said, "Congrats on your new car."

According to Kelly's Blue Book, Edmunds and NADA Guides, we did okay...a Sony stereo in that car would be almost $800 and a remote starter could be up to a couple of hundred more...so we did good.
This is the dealer photo of my new car...

We
get to take it home tomorrow...but I still miss Tlaloc...

That was my car's name...He's the Aztec God of Rain and the car was a dark blue...
He was a Focus ZX5. A great car.
I looked at Impalas and Malibus...but the last Chevy I drove was a red 76 Malibu.
I like the older Impalas that have the black on the trunk rather than the solid colour.
MY last General Motors car was a 86 Pontiac Lemans. She also got wiped on in a head on collision.:thun
We've had Ford's since we got married.

Congrats, S.C. I guess I'll drive my 96 Lumina till the wheels fall off. And that's our newest car, LOL. Well, it has only 112K on it so that ain't bad for that age. When they do fall off and it costs more than the car is worth to fix, maybe we'll get another, if we can even afford gasoline by then. It will be a tiny gas saver car, but I really would rather have at least a 6 cyl engine. Oh, well, enjoy yours! I rode in a Focus once; not bad.

which one was the mother??

Ok what kind of car is it a focus? The picture doesn't come up for me.

3 years ago we went to an Isuzu Dealership looking at a Aszender (As*ender - so dubbed by a guy at the dump). When we walked in...it was about 7pm at night...not a customer in sight. The only salemans came over to us and we asked him to let us take a look and test drive the favored vehicle. We came back and said lets bargain...he showed us this 4 square math scam where they do some fancy math and try to trick you into thinking you are saving money...but when it all comes down to it...each problem equals same amount in sales. I quickly pointed out his scam and then my DH told him we were willing to pay only the advertised SALE price which was painted on the windshield of the car! He said he had to clear it with his sales manager and went to the 'back' office to call him. WE waited, waited, and finally this car pulled up...with out of state tags. The people got out...GOT into the car we just test drove and started looking it over like they were going to buy it. THEN it dawned on me...THAT salesman just called someone from the other dealership to come over and POSE as buyers to rush the sale. THEN I recognized the salespeople...we had been at the sister dealership the week before and I couldn't believe my eyes! My DH marched right up to the glass window of the office the guy was in banged on the WINDOW and said, "YOU all are a bunch of SCAM artsists and we are going to contact the paper and tell everyone we know!". We walked out of there pleased we didn't fall for it! Well, bright and early the next morning...the manager of the dealership called and apologized and offered it to us at below sticker price! He said he didn't want his dealership having a bad name and that he was sorry!
HA...we'll never buy new again....ONLY used from here on out! Figured we'd always have the story about how we were not taken advantage of!

BEWARE the salesman who dissappears during negotiations!

Congrats on the new car!!

My DH has an 01 Ford Focus Sedan. We love it! Has over 111k and still going strong. Never had an issue, it's great on gas and surprisingly has a lot of trunk room. I love to drive it, it's very smooth and since it's a 5 spd, a lot of fun. It's good in the snow, but is quite lightweight, so if it's windy at all, you get pushed around the road. The thing I hate is it doesn't have AC and just has a tape deck and radio. We bought it new and were a bit in dire straights when we did, so I know we didn't get that good a deal as far as financing, but it's been a good little car.

I have a Blazer LS 4x4 myself that is my baby. Loaded to the teeth and except for the gas mileage, I love to drive it. My DH is not allowed to touch it, except to go to the dump, and I even made him get a trailer to put the trash in, cause no way is he putting garbage in the trunk of my truck!

Negotiating for cars can be tough. Seems like you got out alright

I've watched and learned from my parents buy several cars over the past few years. Hopefully when I go in to buy my first one, I'll be able to spot any kind of scammish behavior and get a great deal on my vehicle. But for now, I gotta keep saving up!
