My newborn chickens keep dieing

I have a black silkie that hatched it's two eggs 2 days ago. Yesturday the chicks looked perfectly healthy in the hen house, but today they were both dead. This happened a couple of months ago too. Was I supposed to remove the babies from the mother chicken and put them in a heated box or something? What should I have done? Oh...this is my first chicken.

Did you make sure there was chick starter and water where the chicks could reach it? How about isolating the mom and the chicks? If they were separate from the rest, had chick food and water, and the same mom had two batches of chicks... my guess is your mom might not be cut out for the job, so in the future, if this is the same hen who sets again, I'd take the chicks.
