My Peahen's first sit

My pea hen is sitting on 7 eggs now. I have had her and her mate for about a year and a half. This is the first time she has laid eggs! She laid 10 actually, 1 she has set aside in a different area by itself, one broke and I took one inside.

Meanwhile her mate looks on protectively

I am amazed that she seems to know how to do everything all by herself instinctively. I didn't have to show her how to do anything

I wonder if any of them are fertile. I want some peafowl babies

They are beautiful! One reason I have never gotten any is that they take so long to mature. My dad keeps telling me I need a peacock instead of guineas, LOL. For the first time ever, the other night, I heard a peacock calling down the street! I didn't know anyone around me had them. It was eerie.

Their call does sound eerie!
For the first year when people asked me if they were loud i said " Oh no. Mine don't make any noise"

Now, they cry Meow at 3am-4am every morning. I can hear it inside in bed and it sounds like a distress call to me.

The mother in me won't let me sleep because I am worried something is wrong with them.

I tell people they sound like air brakes on a Mack truck. Your pair is beautiful, and she lays a lot of eggs. Mine usually lays only 3 or 4 to set.
