My first damaged bird!

It was a freak accident, I guess they were flapping around in the cage and Big Bird got his wing caught in the 1"X2" wire... I got home just in time to notice the others picking on his bloody wing. i removed him immediately and put him in the hospital tub. The wing might be broken or it could be just torn skin but I don't want to handle him too much, he might die from the stress. He is eating and drinking. And I put "Special Ed" (a bird that walks funny, always has) in with him for company. They are under the red light again so Ed won't try to eat the blood. I hope I get to witness the magical healing powers of Corturnix quail first hand, Big bird is my favorite. So of course he's get hurt...they are 3 weeks old BTW..

Its always the ones you like the best.....

I wouldnt worry too much Denise, it sounds minor, and the fact that he's still interested in food/ water is a good sign with these guys. Do you have any wound kote (bluekote) If so just paint the affected area with that and leave him be--- he'll heal up fine in no time.

Aww thanks JJ! I feel really bad that one got hurt, even though they are mine I still got them from you, and was afraid you'd be upset about it. I know, totally untrue, but you know. I am a very considerate person, it's almost crippling. i'm getting better at saying no though. It's hard. BTW I still have all your boxs/bubble wrap lol. I am going to pack it all up and ship it back I swear! I'm getting tired of looking at it on my floor lol.
Big Bird and Special ed are happy together, they are comfortable and eating and drinking. I put neosporin on Big Bird. I have no Blukote and I should have gotten some while I was in town, just to have on hand. But I did get another red light for backup to be prepared.

Today Big Bird and Ed are still doing fine! I have been giving the covey a boiled egg every day and this morning I gave the two in the hospital some and the rest to the herd. They are loving it and when they see me come with the little plate they get so excited. It sure perked up Big Bird! I examined the wing late last night. I don't think it is broken or it would hang. I think the underside skin must have torn. But a little more special care for him and I think he'll make a complete recovery!
