We bought ten chicks almost two months ago. So far only one lost the other 8 are growing fast and look great. There is one runt I'm not real sure why I'm guessing she's on the bottom if the pecking list. She has not grown much if any I'm suprised she has made it this far. She acts perfectly normal is just small. We were thinking about putting her by her self to see if that will help her grow better. Is this a good idea or not?

hmmm I would say if the other chicks are letting her eat and not picking on her it might do more harm than good to isolate her. If she's acting normal leave her in there. She just might be a little bird.

I have a "runty" Red Star red sex link and she has been doing fine with the others. I think she is just a small bird. She's also really sweet and loves to sit in the palm of my hand. If she's not getting picked on I would leave her with the others.

My batnam, Cochin at 2 and a half weeks is still barely double the size on my new baby chicks. We named her Dot. She was barely double the size of a bottle cap when we got her, had to do hand feeding and everything. BUT, as the days went by she started asserting herself with the older chicks and now challenges the top hen. LOL She thinks she is all that! It will survive!!!

Last summer I had a BR cockrel that was twice as small as all his hatchmates. For awhile I wondered if he was a bantam. Now he is about 9 months old and you cant tell him from his BSL brother in size. Lindy is still a bit taller but Penguin is a nice large roo now. Yours will catch up or she just may stay on the small size, but if she is eating good and not being bullied I say leave her where she is.

Thanks. I was thinking that mabe if she had unlimited access to food and water and didn't have 8 others stepping on her that she might do better. I also thought that all together they interact and learn from each other
