Hey everyone, so yesterday I got two Poults from a rancher in a small town nearby.
When we met it was about a 35 minute drive from my house they were a little bit larger than I had anticipated so unfortunately they had to stay in a dog crate in the bed of my truck. It was about 98 to 100 and we got home as fast as we could. I gave them water. The rancher said that she had given them food and water right before she left her house, which was also 30 minutes away.
She said they were too young to sex. They’re 11 weeks old but she was pretty sure that she ended up giving me a male and a female well one of the two that I believe is the female is doing fantastic. While the mail or other one is currently been re-homes into my house in a medium size dog crate with Pedialyte and air conditioning. He was doing great all yesterday he was walking upright. Everything seem normal, except for the fact that when I picked him up to move him from when Yard into the next, he threw up, which I’ve never had that happen.. this morning, however, I noticed he was in the corner and he will not straighten his neck out. He will not walk upright. He’s very hunched and drawn in on himself. His tail is down and every time I try to pick him up, he throws up or drools a lot it’s clear there’s no chunks or anything in it. He also has diarrhea. The other turkey was standing over him all morning wouldn’t walk away from him so I decided to bring him inside because it was 108 out here. I think today so I figure some Pedialyte and air conditioning couldn’t hurt any because he’s injured himself is he depressed because he’s
Dan from a flock of 16 down to two does he have an underlying condition I am completely new to turkeys and there’s not very good information out there on them or I’m just not looking up the right questions. Any advice that anybody has would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve also reached out to the person that I bought them from, and she is very kind of joking about it like turkeys are born to die and they’re very fragile and just kind of like whatever didn’t offer to take the turkey back and exchange it for another one or even if he doesn’t make it like I’ll give you your money back.
I don’t know if that’s kind of like a norm with birds because they are such a delicate, fragile creatures, but any advice on that part of the deal would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thank all
