I have turkeys that are 3 weeks old and one of them was walking backwards and disoriented, they are one medicated turkey starter. In attached garage and have never been outside. I don't know what it is. I also posted in the turkey section, but thought more peeps may on here.(so if it gets deleted I will under stand). Thanks for looking.

Hmmm thats strange, birds can not walk backwards consicously , A old trapers trick is to put a piece of a pipe down with a cap on one side just big enouth for the bird to walk into but not turn around.

Sorry I cant help thow - I hope he's just playing

Does it look like maybe he got struck in the head by another Turkey? is he separate or with others? Try separating him perhaps he's got some head damage from the pecking going on. perhaps wry neck, chickens will walk backwards if they have wry neck really bad. Does he hold his head down to the ground at all? Check his eyes and face maybe someone got him in the eye. I'm thinking more of wry neck, in my opinion sounds like someone pecked at his head. If possible, give him polyvisol 3 times a day just a few drops, and one capsule full of Vitamen E and a little tiny bit of selenium per day..

He walks like he is drunk, I looked up every disease and nothing states backwards walking. I did not check the head thing I'm going to look there. I did separate him and he is eating I hadn't seen it drink so I got the same kind of water it is used to. I don't know. He was the smallest of the 5 we bought and the first to strut.

I'm still open to suggestions. I'm stubbed.

Does he hold his head to the ground? If so chances are he has wry neck.. You should try the polyvisol, Vitamin E and selenium for a few days to see if he improves, if it is wry neck your not going to see any markings on his head, one peck to the skull will cause the damage, doesn't necessary have to break the skin or show swelling. So looking at his head you may not see anything.. Good luck.. and I just read that Turkey's can get wry neck..

After looking him, I don't think it is wry neck. He just walks drunk. I'm more leaning towards head trauma caused by another poult. Okay so it is trying to right it's self, from going backwards. Preens, sleeps, eats, drinks, check so I guess I will continue to monitor him.
