In comparison to my bantams, the wild turkey was quite big and sadly his presence killed one of my Silkies

She was always a bit of a flighty type but he freaked her out so much she went into shock and died.

My gals are on an organic coarse layer mix which is a wholegrain ration similar to the old fashioned Scratch Mix. It includes wheat, sorghum, barley, triticale, pearl millet, sunflower seed, mung beans and corn. It is not milled, so is a wholegrain consistency and they love it.

They do not eat pellets! Apparently they are

For breakfast they get a base of either a mixed leaf lettuce or cabbage or combination of both with peas, green beans, corn, tomato, rice or pasta added (depending on the day of week) and this vegie combination usually has some grated beef sausage, hamburger mince, left over roast beef or lamb, chicken, tuna or egg, either scrambled or boiled (again depending on the day of the week).

Sorry, not a fan of Masterchef Australia .. we have too many cooking and reality TV shows and we tend to stay away from them. Throw in talent shows, renovation and real estate reality and Melbourne Housewives, Hollywood Housewives, Los Angeles Housewives and now, some English Housewives thing and we are pretty close to not even bothering to turn the television on!

they are obiviously are quite nasty things (Turkeys). Thanks for the thread I will definitely dump my pics on them!!! as some are quite good although I say it my self, still can't operate my fancy camera properly and take all sorts of random shots by mistake!

I wish I could get your feed sounds really nourishing, will have to check here if there is better than what I am doing at the mo. I thought you couldn't give lettuce, have tried cabbage and they look at me with disdain. They do like baked beans though!!! not sure if there any good but at least its something different. Will try the mince, we have Ostrich do you think that would be ok as I am never quite sure what they put in the beef mince.

Oh I totally agree about the Housewife programmes, do you think they ever get grubby, cleaning house etc God knows what they would be like cleaning chickens, and the hair never ever out of place, mind boggles.

Yep Yarp is actually a bit of a voyeur! he sits on the roof and watches his brother. Don't think he will ever come right but I shall just keep feeding him as I am quite attached.

So Sorry you had to work all night, my hubby is an IT man, so I know what its like especially now as we have load shedding, which is a complete pain they switch off elec whenever they feel like it and its sometimes 6 hours at a time. Cooking by candle light is not fun,

if it wasn't so cold I would be out there braaing!! Anyway hope you have a better day

Sorry to keep bothering you but just had to tell you that, I researched chicken food and all it came upwith was 'fish meal'

. We are not 3rd world but 10th but then everyone knows that!!. Anyway went off to the Health food shop and bought everything you said separately and made an awful mess mixing it all up. Well I have just given them some and they went crazy making that noise when you give them worms. I added frozen peas (defrosted) and found some soya mince which thought might do as well.Success absolute success

they are so happy. I feel awful that they have beern without for so long - still can't be too bad as Molly keeps popping eggs like a machine.

I can't thank you enough for your help, honestly I am so grateful.

Sorry again but just have to say to you that beware of Sunday. My daughter has degrees and diplomas in the stars and Astrology and Sunday is when the engeries meet with between Mercury and an asteroiid.

Anyway its a communicatio/sicknessn thing and bearing in mind you had kuk at workI think mercury is floating around in one of your specific houses.

I don't won't to worry you but she is right because I have had a really **** week Little things have been going wrong - I keep splling things and had a breakdown in the dishwasher and car and generally everything has been a complete stuff up the whole week.

I am just saying don't plan a big party with mother in law, don't go on a long trip and watch the chickens and keep throat spray on hand.. I am Aries and my stars permanently say don't get out of bed don't go to work and don't spend money, which of course I ignore.

Don't wont to worry you at all but 'forwarned is forearmed' or something.

I believe that the reason it is recommended to not feed lettuce is that it basically has no nutritional value. However, I also believe that this is more so the case with Iceberg Lettuce; my gals get a blend of red and green lettuces and also Kale which have a higher nutritional value.

With the cabbage, I shred it, they love that.

House full of IT Geeks here; I work in IT Triage/Support, hubby is a Software Developer and son is trained in Networking and Software Development.

I am glad your flock like the feed and kudos to you for going to such lengths to get it for them.

I just wanted to say that while I am happy to share what I feed my gals, I am not sure if all of the feed gurus out there would agree with me; they may have better ideas or feel that I am not feeding something I should.

My gals love it and they seem healthy on it but I would recommend some research into what is best for your flock.

They also have crushed oyster shell available if they want it and I put ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar) in their water. There has been and probably will continue to be much debate about the benefits of ACV but again, while the jury is out on whether it provides any benefit, I am confident it does not do any harm.

Sorry, not sure about Ostrich. I do feed the gals chicken (yeah, I know

) and they love it.

Another good treat, once a week or so, is sardines in oil. Again, my girls love that and the oil is a good way to keep the system lubricated. I know a breeder in the Aussie Thread who feeds her flock sardines and rice once a week.

I have had a pretty **** week also and will not make plans for Sunday

I have a bit of a ‘everything for a reason’ philosophy. Hubby, not so much. I love teasing him by occasionally saying “everything for a reason” and getting the predicted groan and eye roll

Know what you mean about Geeks, my familytoo, Hubby is a Process Engineer and Software support consultant, he is a contractor. So he is at home when he is

not working, bit of a trial sometimes as I have 'to do' all the time!!! My son also into computers but mainly he works from home as a ''trader' on the stockmarket - he just made a killing in chicken food (ironic). My daughter is a Pharmasist which is very useful! and a Astrology fundi but can be trying at times as she is always telling that mymoon, or planet is colliding or in 'a cupboard' as my son says.

My son is having a 'lan' this weekend so have a houseful of more geeks so its a cooking weekend, just hope the power holds out!!

Will try the sardines but don't the eggs go fishy!! sounds very good though.
