*headdesk* I have an almost 3-month-old easter egger pullet I've been raising indoors to keep my bantam silkie company, till the silkie is a bit bigger. unfortunately, this allowed for a situation I wasn't expecting. I work with polymer clay, it's my online business. to my horror, I found poop in their bin with neon pink clay in the poop of this easter egger. the silki cannot get out, but I've caught the egger out a couple of times. she is still acting sensitive and not wanting to be close to me. she is eating, but kinda looking skinny and is losing some feathers but I don't know if that is just her finish off her adult feathers. is there something I can feed her to help that pass through or to help her digestion get back to normal? should I be concerned that they both have not been filling their crops but just picking all day?

no worries I'm working on a solution to have them outside asap. money is a bit tight so it's on hold to purchase a pen. the silkie is like 1/4th the size of my other hens so I am not ready to put her in with the flock.

What do you normally feed them?

Photos?

The clay likely will pass on out with no issues, but I'd keep the birds blocked from your work area.

Not sure about being sensitive and not wanting close to you? Chickens are not always cuddle bugs, being standoffish is not something to worry about. If they are healthy, no worries.

they are on Purina chick grower, maybe I need to add in some d vitamins because they are stuck inside and are only under fluorescent lighting. or brewers yeast?

Is there a way to give them time outside? Even a temporary outdoor daytime playpen or something like that.
Sunshine, fresh air...that's what chickens needs.

At least some of they clay already came out. If she is acting fine, then her digestion is probably normal, and the clay probably did not change that.

Check the label on the clay. If it says "non toxic," I do not think you need to worry. Things that are non-toxic for people are not usually too bad for chickens either.

It is normal for chickens to eat small amounts of food all day long, and eat more just before bedtime to fill their crop.

From your description, it sounds like normal chicken behavior to me.

Is this a change in their behavior, or have they always eaten this way?
