Isabella is a RIR.... not pure of course :). We got her and a black chick, Midnight, a week before my 4 ordered chicks came. I couldn't wait so my mom said I could get them :). 2. days later the black chick (Midnight) died. We got another chick, Delilah. Turned out to be a rooster... but anyway... also Isabella looked like she was going to be dead about two months ago. She got this really bad eye infection.. like someone pecked it. Then it got all swollen and her head was tipped oddly like she broke her neck.. but she healed :).
Isabella was born this spring... I think April. :) Her egg is fabulous!

I brought her inside since I was so happy!!!

congrats. I remember my first eggs. just make sure she knows where the nesting box is so you don't have to go searching for them Iike I do now. I have to crawl on hands and knees under my porch since I was stupid and did not insist at the beginning that my hens use their nesting boxes.

Yaaaaaaay! I remember Queenie's first egg, just a few weeks ago! Funny that you have an RIR name Isabella. I have a silkie pullet named Isabelle, and she is 7 month old and STILL hasn't laid an egg... not yet, anyway. ;)

Yup, it was in a nesting box! Two days ago she wandered in the one she layed an egg in... :). But yeah.. .my silly polish either isn't laying eggs nor molting... or laying them somewhere else... :p That's okay. I'm not mad right now since all of my birds are either taking care of chicks, molting, or aren't laying.

I bet she'll lay one soon :).
My first chicken was named Bell'e :p. Got her in '09... she was an EE. She died in Febuary though...

My French Black Bopper Marans is named Isabel. She's the only one I named out of the whole bunch. Her shimmery black feathers and gentleness- I had to name her something elegant and sweet. ;) yay on your first egg! Isabel's the only one I'm still waiting on an egg for. ;)
