Even though the feed store told us when we bought our chickens that they were old enough to be able to tell what sex they were, we've had our suspicions about Nugget, one of our Rhode Island Reds that we purchased two months ago. The tell-tale crowing that came out of our chicken coop yesterday morning confirmed our worst fears...Nugget is a Rooster!
We are not allowed by our city ordinance to have roosters, so Nugget must go...I'm pretty sad because he is one of my favorites--friendly, likes to jump up on my lap and be petted. He is beautiful, too! He had a good thing going with the ladies--he should have kept quiet!
