Hi ya'll

My roo, Golden Chick, is barking whenever I have him and his hen and his other friend Mr. Poopy Butt inside the coop. I have 6 new additions, all little chicks that are a month old with us, that I am transitioning them to start going outside. Since they are less than 5-6 weeks old, I know the other older chickens will peck them so that's why I have then inside the coop.

I do this for at least an hour and then place the little chicks inside and let the others roam free.

Is Golden Chick jealous? Why is he barking? Does he think of them as threat even if they are tiny little chicks.

Any other tips on how to get the older chickens to accept the babies? I know this will take a long time and I don't want to just rush into it but they are getting older and they do need to start going outside eventually.

I attached a photo of how the baby chick looks now. They are now starting to grow feathers on top of their heads.

I kept my new additions separated (a pen of their own) within the large pen for quite some time, until they were At least half the size of the adults (2 months). I wanted to ensure them the best chances once fully integrated. So total they were 4 months old.
My older chickens squawked/yelled threw fits clearly NOT happy.
By the time I removed the fencing between them they were so used to each other some actually laid along where the fence used to be as if it was a invisible line.
You’ll always have to watch for bullying and attacks when you put them together. Provide hideouts and places where they can escape from each other.
My transition was easy and I had no problems really. I believe that’s because I took my time and didn’t just throw them together. Plan it out. Best wishes
