They are all together so it is hard to not have him eat the oyster shell calcium. We have a roo so they can be together so we would not isolate him.

Don't worry; the rooster will not eat the oyster shells. Only the hens will, because they crave the calcium. The roosters will just ignore it.

I have raised my rooster on layer feed with the hens with no problems, but you can always switch everyone to Flock Raiser feed 20% protein with your next bag, which is good for chicks, hens, non-layers, and roosters, as long as you provide some crushed oyster shell in a separate container for the layers to take as they need.

This prompted me to do some research, and I did find a link preview that said roosters only need to avoid calcium for the first 18 weeks, but the link is dead.
