My chicken coop is about 25-30 yards from my neighbor's. There are fences between that obscure the visual. Nevertheless, I've noticed lately that when my rooster crows my neighbor's hens answer him back. AND he's crowing much more.

Do you think he could be trying to lure my neighbor's hens into his harem? Happily, we both have enclosed runs and don't free range. Ain't ever gonna happen. But could that be what his intent is?

Meanwhile, I know he's driving other neighbors insane. But with virulent Newcastle he's my only chance to get new chicks that I know will not be introducing disease into my flock.

All roosters are crowing and fighting more this time of year. They get a lot of hormones coming in during the spring. I had a cockerel challenge 2 mature roosters today, he does not even have spurs yet.
