I was so worried about how my two medium sized dogs would behave with my flock while they were out free-ranging in the yard Well, I accidently discovered that my dogs are really not interested in my chickens at all. So I have been letting the flock out while my dogs are in the yard with me and all has been good until today! My American Eskimo which my rooster runs after when she passes by the chicken kindgom was out in the yard barking at the nieghbors dog when my rooster, Hercules creeped up behind her and then just ran right into her. M poor dog didn't know what happened and came running to me. Thankfully no damage was done to her or Hercules. A few minutes later, my beagle mix, Lexus comes cruising by from the back yard and Hercules charges straight into her putting some fuel into her stroll! No damage done but he sure doesn't like the dogs anywhere near his hens!

Now, I am not going to worry about the dogs attacking my flock but Hercules attacking my dogs!

I just sat back and watched because I want the rooster to protect his flock even if it is against my own dogs!

When we first got our min pin, we had this little nasty bantam rooster, possibly a OEGB mix. He was nasty, attacked and spurred everytime you got close, and he would chase you down. We had our min pin outside, with her little blue coat on since it was a chilly fall day, and she ran right into his coop with him. I panicked, but he didnt even care.

Mine does too.
For the most part they get along, but sometimes he goes off on them. If I'm outside, I break it up.

My female dog brought it on herself by chasing and harassing the rooster when he was younger. Now he beats her up, but she fights back. I'm kinda surprised that she hasn't accidentally killed him coz she has pinned him down growling at him --- I take it to mean that she doesn't intend to harm him, just teach him a lesson.
If I'm outside and they try to start up I yell and they both back off. They have an "uneasy" relationship. I don't leave them alone together very much, but sometimes Mr Rooster flies over the fence into the dog's pen while I'm gone to work...... I do what I can and he risks his own neck

Thankfully my rooster has not attacked me but he did try my father when he was feeding them a couple of weeks ago. My father said he just shoved him out the way and that was the end of it. I have to say if he attacks people I will cull him for sure. I was attacked as a child and it was not fun and gave me a fear of birds! Yesterday, he stopped chasing my dog when I stepped up to him; so maybe he does have a fear or me at least!

That is a funny story. Thanks for sharing.

When I was little (4 years old) my dad had a pair of roosters that would always chase me and scratch my back. We had them for dinner one night.

Ha ha, our pekin cockerel likes to chase my friends dog around our allotment, she is a border collie and does not like other dogs but wouldnt stand up to our cockerel!
