My roosters still aren't mating with the hens

In late April, I got some cockerels I was going to breed. 4 months later, and they aren't crowing or trying to mount the hens. Okay, one has tried to crow once. He sounded like a squeaky toy. The other one has been trying to mount the Ameraucauna pullets (1/3 of his size), but that's it. I know that its because of the hormones and all of that stuff, but I want my roos to mount the bigger chickens. Is there anything I can do, or will they get the hang of it by themselves?

You do not have roosters, you have immature cockerels. Give them some time to grow up.

It sounds like you may have some older hens. Many mature hens require a male to act like he will be a good father to their chicks. They don't like weaklings and certainly don't like immature brats trying to bother them. You may occasionally find a hen that will squat for anything in spurs (even if they are too young to have spurs) but most just aren't going to put up with it. Pullets their age are a little more accepting and a much safer target. Pullets their age will not beat the crap out of them, mature hens might.

Just be patient. You may soon be complaining about how much those boys are bothering the hens.
