In the Brooder
My sapphy, Big Grey, layed her egg this morning and then sat in it like she was almost being broody. Now 4 hours later she’s back out in the flock, what’s up with her?

Is her attitude closer to a broody? Sometimes they just sit in place to rest after doing all the hard labor of pushing it out. At least, that's what some of my young start-of-lay pullets will do for two hours every other day. Mine are not broody judging by their attitude, just tired. My sapphy, Big Grey, layed her egg this morning and then sat in it like she was almost being broody. My hens are EXTREMELY active they will lay and then not go back to the coop for the rest of the day. To them the coop is for laying and brooding. This is new behavior and not too dissimilar to when they start getting broody. The only difference is the whole taking turns thing they’ve been doing. They don’t puff up and they don’t bark, but they do make their annoyed noises. Is her attitude closer to a broody?
