Hi there
Hope any has an answer to my peacock sickness
I just noticed that my peacock is not able to walk, I think because of a problem in one of its legs. It's bean like that since one or two days and hence it's not able to feed or drink.
What kind of sickness is that effects the bursts legs and how can I cure it.

This is my third bird with the same problem, the first one was my female huge ostrich and the second one years later it happens to my Turky both of which eventually died and nine by peacock.

Can you please advise me what to do before I loose this one also

Thanks
Khalid

Sorry to hear about your problems with your peacock. Can you give us a bit more details, please?

Here are some questions that may help us figure out what you can do. The more you tell us, the better we will be able to help you.

1) What is the bird's age and weight (does it seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use

Welcome to BYC! Sorry you peacock is sick. In addition to the questions above it would be helpful to know what country you are in. If I know what country you are in I can search for diseases that are common there.

In the US, things that might cause a peacock to not be able to walk are coccidiosis, worms, bacterial infections, dehydration, and starvation.

Can you post some pictures of your boy?

I would like to know the age and weight of your boy.

Hi again
He's setting on the bar now . I don't know how he managed to go up there, but I think his one of the legs is still weaker. I didn't notice any change on both legs to me they seem normal.

Don't know its exact age but I have it since 4 years now and I suppose it was not less than 3 years old at the time .

His weight seems normal since long time.

His behavior now is that rarely moves when on the ground always setting and very easy for me to hold it. Now that on the bar 3.5 meter height it seems moving little bet but seems difficult to hem to come on the ground again to feed and drink.

He's bee. Experiencing this since at least 23 days.

No other berd is effected like him

No bleeding or injuries

He's been drinking clean water sling with others and same food since years
His poop seems normal

I've tried to go force it to walk which helped a bet

Finally it's in cage with a peahen, another peacock 1.5 years, two rosters, 7 hens,2 voulcharenes and 5 red foot patriages
I used to have much more birds and two deers in the same cage which is 20x7x8 height

Thanks

Good news is he doesn't look like he's about to die, but he does look sick, and this leg looks a little swollen. Can you post a video of him trying to walk? To post a video you need to upload it to youtube or vimeo, then copy/paste the link here.

Is this swollen?
