I'm a beginner chicken mama and I have a 3 month old Japaniese Silkie. Her name is "Silkie" Magin that... :)
I have had her for about 1 1/2 weeks now and have this wonderful chicken coop my husband made for me. It's an A-frame that is aproximently 3ft X 2ft, 3 ft tall. It's perfect for the one chicken. Today I noticed she was having trouble walking and seems to be favoring her left leg. She will walk on it if she wants to, and seems to walk normal when she does walk. But,,,, I have been watching her, and she acts like she's off ballance at times. She fell out from her top section this morning when trying to come down her ramp. I thought it was the steps were too far apart. But she doesnt' seem herself today. Does anyone have an input of what could be wrong with her?
I am feeding her in her water vitamins and electrolites and an antibiotic. She still has an appitite and loves the bugs I feed to her. I'm making sure she is comfortable and watching her closely. Is there anything that can be done for a bum leg?

Thank you for all your help.

How closely have you checked her foot and leg? Pick her up and examine her closely. Check every joint, move the feathers so you can see the skin, and look for bruises, bumblefoot, soreness in joints, wounds, and the like. Once you've narrowed it down to what, exactly, is hurting her, the good folks of BYC can give you better instructions on how to treat her.

Thank you for your help. As the days went on she got worse. We think she had Marecks. I had to have her put down as she could even get up on her feet to go eat or drink. I didn't want her to suffer or starve to death. She is in Chicken heaven and I was glad to have had her for the short time I did. She was a sweet chicken. Thanks again.
