I have at least two, perhaps more, chicks arriving soon - my Silkie is doing a great job taking care of the eggs. But I have NO idea what to do once the chicks hatch? Do I need to separate the mama and babies from the other birds in the coop? Provide special food/water for the babies? I'm sure the information I'm looking for is somewhere on this forum, but I can't seem to find it - if anyone could point me in the right direction I'd sure appreciate it.

I usually separate momma and babies from the rest of the flock. It just gives me peace of mind and guarantees the safety of the chicks in case something were to go south. You can put momma and babies on chick starter and make sure they have fresh, clean water, and mom will do the rest. Feel free to ask any more questions!

They are pretty good about teaching the babies to eat, to come when called, etc.. I think my babies were about 3 weeks old when I let mama and babies back out with the flock(with me supervising of course) and she was happy to be back in the flock, but still kept her babies out of the hustle and bustle.. Good luck with your babies.. One thing I did do with my Silkie babies was to moisten their feed the first week or so bc they are just so teeny ..
