my son brought home a chicken

I'm new to backyard chickens. My 18 year old is loving having them around and he brought one home from a local chicken rescue. Any breed identification?

Could be a welsummer. If that is your only chicken you need to get at least one more. They do not do good by themselves.

She is a light brown leghorn - possibly rose combed - can't quite make out her comb.

Congrats on your new chicken!!! She should lay white eggs for you if she is laying.

Brown leghorn hen. Her comb doesn't look like she's laying right now, but once spring hits she'll flood you with nice large white eggs.

Most likely Brown Leghorn...definitely not Welsummer. Welsummers have red earlobes and more salmon in their chest. Brown Leghorns have white ear lobes.

Be sure to keep her separate from your other chickens for at least 2 weeks until you can ascertain if she has any illnesses or parasites.

That means separate living area, food bowls, and no beak to beak or run to run space.
