My sweet CB (Crooked Beak) laid a shell-less egg I believe

I have a hen that was born with a crooked beak. She has always been able to keep up her weight but it seems she's hungry all the time now. This morning I went out to the coop to feed and gather eggs and found a shell-less egg for the first time ever. It was thick, and kind of rubbery, but you could see the yolk inside. It was on the floor of the pen and not in the nesting box. I'm not sure, but I believe she laid it. I have 8 (Ameraucana) girls so it's hard to pinpoint who laid it? I've never had a problem before, my eggs are always nice and hard. Will this hurt her if she continues laying these types of eggs? I have a soft spot for her and I'm a worried. All of my flock are on crumble and have access to several acres of grassy land.

Thanks

Sometimes they lay these kinds of eggs.if you would like to do a little research on them they are called LASH eggs. you can look up lash egg. Keep an eye on her and make sure she's not getting egg bound or laying internally and she should be fine. Usually the eggs return to normal. I too have a cross beak mines not in lay yet but it won't be long. I understand how you feel protective over her. Sometimes these eggs just happen. She should be back to normal and laying good eggs soon. Hope this helps and best wishes.do look up lash eggs and it will tell you a littlemore about it. Good luck! :)

No I'm not feeding oyster shells separate, it's included in her laying crumble and I've never had this problem in any of my girls since they've started laying. I guess I'll add a separate feeder of this to make sure

I've also added a deep bowl so she will get more food

Lash egg huh? I did Google shell-less eggs and that's what brought me here

I'll have to Google Lash egg now and see what else I can find

In my opinion, if she's just begun laying, the soft eggs are pretty normal. You may find more of them or her next egg might be perfect. They just need time to work out the kinks.
The bowl was a good idea. I've had a couple of crooked hens and they did so much better eating from a deep bowl rather than the hanging feeder the "normal" birds use. Good luck. Your special girl is most likely going to be just fine :)
