Here are some pictures of my girls. There are about 6 months old. I bought them from a feed store when they were a few days old. All the sign said was red pullets. The clerk said rhode island reds. I think one is a RIR and the other two are hybrids. My theory is that they just ordered a bunch of brown egg layers (maybe hatchery extras). Who knows what they are, but I love them.

Ethel my top hen who is a bit camera shy.

Shirley my drama queen and camera hog.

Laverne my special little chick.

Sadly, Lucy died a month ago from genetic problems. She was a gorgeous red hen.

Your guess is as good as mine. They could be Isa Browns, Red Sex Links or Production Reds.

My sister came up with the names. Surprisingly, Laverne is timid and Ethel is dominate, not like their namesakes.

Also, how long do sex links live? I've heard the die young and have reproductive problems. I really hope not. I want them to live a longtime.

I've never heard that before. im not sure how long they live though, but being that theyre a cross breed you would think they'd be 'better' in some ways....they are bred for production though.
