Got a letter today from the town stating we needed to get rid of our chickens within 10 days as we were breaking a town ordinance.
The town ordinance reads:
Agriculture (Agricultural Operation): The production, keeping, or maintenance for sale or lease, of plants, animals, or products thereof, including ornamental and greenhouse products. Agriculture does not include forest management and timber harvesting activities.
When I read this (before getting chickens) I said we were okay since it states for sale or lease - when I spoke with the assessor today, she said that the line is vague and since it says keeping that we were in violation, but agreeded that it does say for sale or lease and she is letting us off the hook for now in order to speak with the towns attorney on the wording.
What do you all think? I haven't sold one egg - I give away my extras to family and friends.
