I have two Pekin ducks, that are 9 weeks old. They are on duck pellets now and I understand that they don't need grit with that but when I give them treats or when they are outside eating the grass and dandelions I always supply grit for them. They never seem to touch it even when I mix it in their food.
Anyone know if this is normal?

I'm not sure if its normal but if they are going outside they don't need grit as they can get it from the ground. If you really wanna make sure they are getting it let them walk around in some dirt.

You don't need to mix it with their food, just give them a small bowl of it they will eat it as they need it.

Ok thanks. When they are outside in the pen they dig in the mud and eat that but I thought they needed something courser. I always make sure they have access to both grass and dirt. They love playing in the mud that the small pool makes when they splash. I have a small bowl of grit but they don't eat it. LOL Perhaps they know what's best.

Thanks again.

I was thinking you had 3 ducks did something happen to one or am I wrong?

You are right I did have three. 2 Pekin and 1 Rouen. Turned out I had two males and one female. The Rouen male was very aggressive and continuously pulled out the chest fuzz of the other male despite him running away from him all the time. I separated them several times but each time it got worse to the point of bleeding. I found a good home for the Rouen and he went there. The two remaining ducks are inseparable now.

LOL
Thanks for remembering though

I knew you had posted about one doing the pulling out of fuzz but thought maybe I was thinking of someone else, Glad you found a home for the Rouen and the Pekins are living a happy life.

Once I realized I had two males and a female I had to rehome one of the males anyway, as our coop wasn't finished to start getting more. I plan to see how they do and if the male isn't too "friendly" I will leave them the way they are. They are so cute together. They are so noisy if I separate them for any reason or if Daisy can't see Albert. If he needs another female I will try to find another Pekin the same age. The 8 chicks turned out to be all female and all healthy so I have 8 young chickens too. LOL

Wow that has to be a miracle getting 8 chicks and they are all female.

Truly. We wanted 4-5 chickens for eggs. The man at TSC suggested getting 8 because he said I may end up with a rooster or two and could also lose a couple as we got day olds. Nope, all girls and all lived. Yahoo!!! They are adorable and make a cute little flock. They watch the ducks play in the water looking on in total disgust. LOL
