My very capable Tom just tried to breed a 2 month old hen

I have a Red Slate Tom who is approximately 2 1/2 years old. He tried to breed a 2 month old hen and accidentally smothered her. How would be best to prevent this from happening again? They are free range during the day and are penned at night to protect them from predators. They are in a big enclosed area with the chickens and other turkeys. They turkey poults are 2 months to 4 months old.

The only way you can prevent this is to keep him separated from the poults until they are mature.
