I've always wanted chickens, so what better time than in quarantine? We ended up with a random mix of five breeds. They're now 8 weeks, and I thought it'd be fun to show a progression of their growth each week.

Meet Moira Rose, the only full-size of the bunch. She's a "Favacauna" (mix between an Americauna and Faverolle). She has a big personality.

This is Idgie. She's the cuddliest of the bunch - a Buff Brahma Bantam.

Edie is in the running for my favorite. She's very curious but a bit submissive. She loves cuddles. She's a Mottled Cochin Bantam.

This is Ruth Bader Ginsburg, our Mille Fleur D'Uccle Bantam. She has a really fun personality and is incredibly bonded with Moira, even though she's the bittiest one and Moira is the largest.

And last but not least, our Silkie - Laura Dern. I'm bummed because she's the only one who doesn't love cuddles, but she's quirky and cute so I'll deal with it.

And the coop that we miraculously built in 3 weeks. First time building anything and turned out alright!

What beautiful chicks! So nice that you dedicate a lot of time to them. I have 8 little EE's (2 wks old right now)...they are all used to me but not as "cuddly" as your babies. I have 2 adult dogs, 3 lab puppies & 2 cats so my attention is understandably split.

3 lab puppies! Wow! We have 2 dogs and a cat, but they were a bit neglected during chick time. I'm sure if there were puppies I would have been more distracted. Maybe yours will be cuddly later, I think it ebbs and flows!

Cuddly will have to wait until the pups grow out of their
"find & destroy weak spots in the fence" and "have to chew/eat everything" phase. They have even tried to eat the handles and the choke control on my brand new zero turn mower! I have to fence/contain anything I don't want chewed up. Hoping I can construct proper protection & convince them that the chicks are not play things. I am a little scared...I have a garden enclosure that a beautiful red cardinal flew into. One of the puppies galloped into the enclosure and ate the bird in one bite. When I scolded him, he just looked like Sylvester with feathers in his mouth..."What bird?...I didn't see a bird" I have a small coop with run inside a 10 x 20 enclosure. The enclosure is lined with chicken wire...I will reinforce the lower walls with hardware cloth before I move the chicks in. Wish me luck.

Good luck! We don’t let our dogs with the chickens. Maybe when they’re bigger they can have slow introductions but we don’t trust them for the same reason. It’s be an accidental death most likely from our shepherd just stomping. (That’s how he plays!)

I keep coming back to this thread to look at your coop/run. Can you share building plans?

I used the Wichita Cabin coop plans on here! It was TOUGH because 1. I've never built anything and 2. there isn't a definitive pattern, just a SketchUp mock-up. Happy to share tips using that tool if you end up doing it! Honestly I love the outcome, but a pattern would have been easier. I'll probably do a building post soon. We modified the run slightly to add an extra two uncovered feet. :)
