I wanted to know if anyone had the same experience with their welsummer rooster. Welsummer rooster has been around us from the time he was a day old, along with the other chicks. It seems as though the rooster is just protective over us, as he is his is his hens. Has anyone else had the same experience?

I don't have a Welsummer either, but my beloved Partridge Orpington was protective of me, too. There was some hen drama at one point where some of the hens would get jealous of each other when I gave them attention, and would attack and peck&flog me, and he'd put himself between them and me and discipline them for me. It was so sweet. I miss that boy (he's the one in my profile image).

I don't have a Welsummer, but I do have an EE rooster. He is protective of me. He doesn't like it when I go down to the mailbox. He can be far off and come running to bring me back to the house. :)
I love it! Our Tilley is such a beautiful boy!

Yes! I have an 8 month old Welsummer roo, he adores me but not so much the hubby. LoL He calls him mama's boy. He flogged him the other day though, which was not good, luckily he just has nubs still for spurs. We are working with him now to be sure it doesn't become a habit, and hubby doesn't turn his back to him anymore. Otherwise, he is fantastic and respectful of the ladies.
