I have a pair of wellies and the hen will not lay despite looking to be in great condition and egg laying fettle! sh did lay a few beautiful dark brown eggs last year but never laid after the start of he first proper malt. any ideas!

How old are they? And when you say pair, but the hen won't lay, I'm guessing your other is a roo? I mean, it could be any number of things (none of which actually have anything to do with what breed your chickens are), but we need more information.

As an aside, my wellie was the very last to lay (and was rather late), but she's been laying like a champ ever since the end of January. 5-7 eggs per week, even through a recent battle with poultry lice.

I second the fact that my welsumers were the last to lay of my bunch of chickens. The last one just started laying this week at over 7 months old. They still are not laying prolifically, not like the rest of my chickens. But they're still young so I'm cutting them some slack.
