I really want to get silkies, but they have to be sexed. my pet chicken is the only hatchery that sexes them. does anyone know a way of getting them before they are sold out?????

You have to keep checking the availability. They sell out of everything fast I've noticed. Here's a link to keep checking http://www.mypetchicken.com/catalog/baby-chick-availability.aspx

You can also go to the 'day old baby chick' section and use the 'filter by available date' filter. Just select the various dates to see what's coming up. Check frequently. I only do out of curiosity but it does change quite a bit.

Also, keep in mind that mistakes can happen with sexing. I frequently see disclaimers on sites that say 'sexing is more of an art than a science' and most places don't sell sexed silkie chicks because of that coupled with the fact that silkies are notoriously hard to sex even using the vent method.

I guess Silkies are not readably available during December? Do you know where I can get at least 6 mixed colors (6 eggs) at this time of year?

You have a few options for eggs. Check the buy/sell/trade hatching egg section. Emvickery has been posting silkie auctions. I'm not sure if she has any still available. You could ask on The Silkie Thread in the breeds information section. Or you can look on eBay. I just hatched a batch of eBay silkie eggs and had a decent hatch rate considering they're shipped eggs.

Thanks for your reply. Seemed simple to me...what was I thinking? Anyhow, with the holidays here and all, I guess I will do my shopping in 2015 now. HAPPY Holiday.

No problem :) It's much easier to find eggs and chicks in the spring. Good luck!
