You laugh, but it is NOT uncommon in Nebraska (here) and Iowa to routinely come across prehistoric fossils digging in the yard or in washouts. With all the flooding we had last year mammoth teeth (which are huge) and bones of other creatures are being found. Herds of mammoth were large here at one point.On top of normal death of prehistoric animals we had the great ashfall that killed thousands upon thousands. (Jaw is not mammoth)
Or old bessie dropped dead and a coyote hauled a bit off to chew for later.
