Rita is a 4 year-old Easter egger who has been part of my flock for about 2 years now. For the last year, she's been consistently hoarse and somewhat sneezy, but otherwise in fine shape. About 2 weeks ago, she started to get worse, so we brought her inside to keep her warm and dry. When we first brought her in, she was coughing, wheezing, and sneezing frequently and looking just generally unwell (sluggish, loss of appetite). I've been treating her with Bimeda Tetroxy Hca Soluble Powder by giving her about 1/32'd of a teaspoon in about 8 oz of water each morning. She's drinking and eating at a normal rate now. I've also snuck some cayenne pepper and garlic powder in her oatmeal each morning, which she eats happily. So, she's perked up a lot since we first brought her inside BUT she's still sneezing, coughing, and wheezing. I'm about at the end of a safe cycle for the antibiotic, and I don't want to put her back with the flock in case she is contagious. I'm not really sure what else to do for her.
She is not exhibiting signs of worms (I've checked her droppings and her throat). And, like I said, she's been hoarse/sneezy for a good year now, but never had any discharge from her nostrils or eyes. I tend to think whatever she has may be chronic, kind of like allergies. Does anyone have any insight what could be giving Rita respiratory distress?
Thanks in advance!!
